Fine Quality Four Glass Quarter Striking Library Clock. c1890

Walnut case with four glazed panels – front, sides and top with beveled glass. Brass quatrefoil fretwork to rear door. Full front and rear doors with locks and original key, on bracket feet. Case in original untouched condition.

Rectangular silvered dial, 7 3/8 x 6 1/8. The applied silvered chapter ring has Roman hour chapters, engraved half hour markers and Arabic minutes at the five minute markers, a double minute band and an inner quarters circle. The dial is engraved J. W. Benson, London. Two subsidiary dials to the top for Fast/Slow (rising) regulation to the LHS and Chime/Silent on the RHS. Steel hands and pointers and two winding holes.

Movement is signed W & H Sch. 1.on the rear plate. This solidly built, heavy, brass plated movement has four screwed and pinned plate pillars, two spring barrels, anchor escapement and rack hours striking on a rear gong. Ting Tang quarters striking on two blued steel gongs. 8 day running movement
