A Brass Four Glass Mantle Clock with Compensating Pendulum. c1880
This high quality French clock is housed in a polished brass case that is glazed to four sides with beveled glass. There are doors to the front and rear, the front for winding and adjusting the hands, and the rear for access to the gong and pendulum which can be observed swinging to and fro.

The clock has a 4 ¾” white slightly convex enamel dial that has Roman hour chapters and single line markers for the minutes. The dial has a machine turned gilt bezel and blued “Moon Phase” steel hands. Winding arbors below the center for time (RHS) and strike (LHS).

This is a spring driven brass eight day substantial drum movement and strikes
the hour and half hour on a rear mounted blued steel coiled gong. It has rack striking and Brocot suspension that can be adjusted from the front dial. Automatic temperature compensation is achieved by the mercury filled glass pendulum.
