A Good Swiss Gilt Atmos Clock by Le Coultre. c1970’s
A marvel of engineering and technology since the beginning of its production in 1930s, the Jaeger Le Coultre ATMOS clock is still the closest man has ever come to creating perpetual motion. The ATMOS literally "lives on air", drawing its motive force from minute changes in ambient room temperature. A mere variance of one degree Celsius is sufficient power the ATMOS for two days. Never needing winding or a battery, the ATMOS nevertheless is made to such exacting tolerances that it can be expected to last a lifetime, with an interval of 20 years between cleanings all that's required for maintenance.

To convert the small amount of energy that comes from the air, everything inside the Atmos is made to be virtually frictionless and runs as smoothly and as quietly as is humanly possible.

In these days of mass production, every Atmos is still made in Switzerland entirely by hand. A single Atmos clock takes a month to produce and then undergoes another 5 weeks of trial and adjustment before leaving the factory in the Vallée De Joux located in the Swiss Jura Mountains. Atmos is thus a rare, hard to find item and should be treated accordingly.

Clock is 9 ½” high and 8 ¼” wide at the base.

Price: $1260
