This is an ebonized eight day longcase clock with square brass dial. The long trunk door has moldings to the edges and a gilt lenticle to the door. Flat top hood with molded cornice and sound fretwork below backed with beige silk. ¼ pillars to the hood rear and ¾ attached pillars to the glazed hood door. All pillars capped with gilt wooden capitals. Base raised on plain double plinth. This clock had been quite nicely re-ebonized before we acquired it, while this certainly brings out the best in terms of appearance, some might suggest that the restoration appears quite recent.
The 12” square brass dial has wheatear engraving around the edges. Silvered chapter ring with Roman hour chapters and full but narrow minute band and Arabic minute numbers every 5 minutes. Inner quarters ring, engraved half hour markers and diamond half quarter markers. Silvered seconds dial below the XII with Arabic seconds every 5 seconds and floral engraving to the center. Matte dial center with ringed winding holes and square date aperture above the VI with decorative floral engraving with birds above the signature cartouche, signed Isaac Goddard, London, all topped by a crown. Gilt brass spandrels of two cherubs holding a crown. Hands of blued steel.
