A mahogany bell top eight day time and strike bracket clock signed Thos Jackson, London. c1790

This traditional English bracket clock has a mahogany bell top case with brass carrying handle mounted on the bell top, and brass ogee bracket feet. Full front and rear doors with brass trim to the glazing. Fretwork backed by red silk to either side of the arch. Sides with a circular opening over a rectangular opening, both with brass fretwork backed by red silk.

The attractive seven inch brass arch dial has applied cast female head spandrels to the dial corners and to either side of the silvered and signed arch plate. The clock is signed Thos Jackson, London in the arch. The silvered chapter ring has Roman hour chapters and a full minute band, Arabic minute numbers every 5 minutes outside the band. The silvered center with two winding holes toward III and IX and engraved with leaf scrolls. The clock has blued steel pierced hands.

The brass plated five pillar eight day movement has twin fusee with gut line and anchor escapement with heavy lead filled brass pendulum bob. Rack striking on a top mounted bell. Both plates are shaped. The backplate is signed H & W to the lower center.

Loomes lists a Thomas Jackson, London (Clerenwell) working between 1783 and 1810. He also states that H&W is a monogram of Walker and Hughes.

Height 18 inches to case top plus a 2 inch handle.
