This is a very unique miniature timepiece in a solid rosewood case with brass mounts and four corner finials and a top mounted finial. Brass trim to the sides and round the glazed latched front door. The rear door is solid rosewood and is also latched. The clock stands on brass bracket feet.
The 2 ¾ wide silvered brass arched dial has leaf scroll corner engraving, Roman hour chapters and Arabic minute numbers every five minutes round a full minute band. The dial is signed J. Stockton, London in a cartouche in the arch and also engraved 896 at the bottom of the dial. Hands are of blued steel.
The movement is housed between brass plates 2 ½ by 3with four pillars. The rear plate also signed J. Stockton, London and with the number 896 at the bottom. Balance regulation is engraved Slow/Fast. The eight day movement is chain fusee with verge and crownwheel escapement.
J. Stockton could very well be the son of Henry Stockton who was making watches in London before 1743. There are no other Stocktons listed in London.
