A very nice eight day time and strike bracket clock signed James Moor French, Royal Exchange, London . c1800

A fine clock by this eminent maker of precision clocks and chronometers. This is an ebonized, break arch clock top mounted gilt carrying handle, gilt brass trim, gilt brass side sound frets over red silk all on gilt ball feet. Both front and rear doors are glazed.

The white painted 8” (wide) break arch dial has Roman chapters, Strike/No Strike to the arch and is signed French, Royal Exchange, London . The hands are brass and of the matching moonphase pattern.

The substantial five pillar movement is of good quality. Twin fusee with chain drive for time and rack striking on a top mounted bell, with pull repeat hours. The movement has anchor escapement and pendulum with a 3 ¼” diameter bob and pendulum screw down hold fast.

Height 18 ½”, width 11 ½”, and depth 7”. Weight is approximately 18 lbs.
